14th Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi
Syed Usama Shaban Bukhari (born 11 March 1995) is the 14th Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid, Delhi.
He was appointed Naib Imam of Jama Masjid on 22 November 2014 and is next in line to succeed his father. The dastarbandi ceremony took place in Jama Masjid. On the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, 25 February 2024 he succeeded his father to be the 14th Shahi Imam, and will do imamat in absence of his father.
Personal life
While pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Amity University, Shaban married a Hindu girl from Ghaziabad with whom he was in a relationship for couple of years. It was reported that she had agreed to convert to Islam and was also learning Quran.
Family
Born in Delhi, India, Syed Shaban Bukhari hails from the family of Islamic theologists who have since their past thirteen generations presided over the Grand Mosque "Jama Masjid", Delhi, India, built in the year 1656 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who commissioned the Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan appointed Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari, who was the great grandfather of Syed Shaban Bukhari, as the First Imam of Jama Masjid Delhi and decreed that the Imamat shall continue in the same family.
Keeping the tradition, in the year 2014, Syed Shaban Bukhari was appointed as the Vice (Naib) Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi, India, by his father, the Thirteenth Shahi Imam, Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari.

Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid declares son Syed Shaban Bukhari as his 'successor'
In his address before making the formal declaration, Bukhari traced the history of the mosque and said the first Shahi Imam was appointed by Emperor Shah Jehan.
The first Imam of Jama Masjid (Hazrat Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari, Shahi Imam) was appointed the Shahi Imam at the age of 63, the current Shahi Imam said.
As per traditions, Imams have declared their successors in the life times.
So, in line with the over 400 years of tradition, from this Jama Masjid, "I declare that Syed Shaban Bukhari is my successor," he announced to a gathering of Islamic scholars, and other dignitaries present on the occasion.
After the announcement, the tying of 'dastarbandi' (turban) on the head began according to the old 'riwaz' (tradition) associated with the investiture.
Syed Shaban Bukhari (29) was anointed as the mosque's Naib Imam in a 'dastarbandi' ceremony in November 2014, the official said.
In the event of Syed Ahmed Bukhari's death or ill-health, he will serve as the 14th Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, it was announced by his father.
The ceremony at the Mughal-era mosque built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century lasted more than an hour.
Several 'ulemas (Islamic scholars)' are attending the ceremony for which the mosque — a veritable symbol of old Delhi or Shahjehanabad and a celebrated landmark — was decked up.
Some congratulatory posters bearing images of the Shahi Imam and his son have been put up along the street running in front of the mosque, whose architecture draws awe from both locals and foreign tourists.

Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari declared his son Syed Shaban Bukhari his successor at a ‘dastarbandi’ ceremony held in the courtyard of the mosque. Addressing before making the formal announcement at the ceremony on Sunday (February 26), Syed Ahmed Bukhari mentioned the history of the mosque and said it was Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan who had appointed the first Shahi Imam of the mosque. He said the first Imam of the Jama Masjid (Hazrat Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari) was appointed as the Shahi Imam at the age of 63.

Syed Ahmed Bukhari is the son of Syed Abdullah Bukhari, the 12th Shahi Imam who died aged 87 in 2009.
Syed Ahmed Bukhari was declared his father's successor in October 2000.

ALS Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari al-Jufi was born after the Jumu'ah prayer on Friday, 21 July 810 (13 Shawwal 194 AH) in the city of Bukhara in Transoxiana (in present-day Uzbekistan). During his infancy, Imam al-Bukhari (RH) had weak eyesight that manifested into full-blown blindness. Desperate for her son, his mother made excessive, sincere, and constant dua for her son. This period extended for a lengthy two to three years. One night, Imam al-Bukhari’s mother received the glad tidings of Ibrahim (AS) in a dream, who said that Allah (SWT) had granted Imam al-Bukhari vision because of her dua. The eyesight was not even restored at a lesser degree, but at full strength. It is reported that Imam al-Bukhari (RH) would write books without a candle but only from the light of the moon. He memorized the Holy Qur'an at the age of 9. Then began to learn Hadith from scholars of his region. At the age of 16, he traveled to Makkah and stayed there for 16 years collecting Hadiths. He visited Egypt and Syria twice, Basra four times, spent many years in Hijaz and went to Kufa and Baghdad many times. It is said that he learned about 600,000 Hadith from more than 1,000 scholars. Imam Bukhari (RH) had an extremely strong memory from an early and his memory was considered to be inhuman. His brother Rashid bin Ismail stated that in his childhood: "Imam Bukhari used to go with us to the scholars of Basra to listen to Hadiths. All of us used to write Hadiths down except Imam Bukhari. After some days, we condemned Imam Bukhari saying that, you had wasted so many days work by not writing down Hadiths. Imam Bukhari asked us to bring our notes to him. So, we all brought our notes, upon which Imam Bukhari began to read Hadiths one by one from the top of his head until he narrated to us more than fifteen thousand Hadiths. Hearing these Hadiths, it seemed that Imam Bukhari was re-teaching us all of the Hadiths we had noted." He did not depend on pen and paper as much as he
