Mandy Is Super Open About Her Mental Health

Mandy told The Newsette that when she was younger, mental health wasn’t discussed in her family. But she eventually spoke to a psychiatrist who helped her take care of this important part of her well-being:

“I felt a little out of place, always, so I started doing research, which finally led me to a psychiatrist, who diagnosed me with bipolar II disorder…which is where you have cycles of depression mixed with more elevated moods. Highs and lows, basically…then in my 40s, I was diagnosed with adult ADHD, which, again, is not something that was ever talked about in my community.”

Now, Mandy says she wants “every young woman to know it’s okay to talk about mental health issues.”

She continued: "My neighborhood was a really rough neighborhood [with] gangs. With all of that stuff, and when I got pregnant, I think that's what triggered, because I was like, 'OK, I have another person depending on me.
