    Shivraj Singh Chouhan was Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister from 2005 to 2018 and again from 2020 to 2023. He became the Chief Minister for the first time in 2005 after replacing Babulal Gaur. He remained the CM till December 2018 when the Congress party became the single largest party in the state and Kamal Nath became the Chief Minister. However, the Congress government in the state was short-lived and Shivraj Singh Chouhan again became the CM in March 2020 after the Jyotiraditya Scindia's rebellion. He was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader has been representing the Budhni constituency in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly since 2006 winning it in a bypoll. He won the seat in 2008, 2013 and 2018 also by defeating Congress candidates Mahesh Singh Rajput, Dr Mahendra Singh Chauhan and Arun Subhashchandra Yadav respectively. In the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections, Chouhan again won the Budhni seat by defeating Congress candidate Vikram Mastal Sharma with a margin of 1,04,974 votes. The BJP again won the decisive mandate in the state but Chouhan was replaced with Dr Mohan Yadav. Chouhan first represented Budhni in 1990 when he won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Hari Singh with a margin of over 22,000 votes. Chouhan won the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in 1991 (bypoll), 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004. Chouhan won a bypoll from Vidisha in 1991 after BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee retained his Lucknow seat and left Vidisha. He was also the former vice president of the BJP from 2019 to 2020.     Shivraj Singh Chouhan (born 5 March 1959; Hindi pronunciation:[ʃɪʋ.ɾaːd͡ʒsɪŋgʱt͡ʃɔːɦaːn̪]) is an Indian politician who is serving as the 32nd Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and 23rd Minister of Rural Development since 11 June 2024. Chauhan was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh from 2020 to 2023 and previously from 2005 to 2018 and a Member of Legislative Assembly in Madhya Pradesh from Budhni since 2006 to 2024 and previously from 1990 to 1991. He is the longest serving Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

    He was also the former National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party from 2019 to 2020, a member of the Parliamentary Board and a member of the Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was the National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha from 2000 to 2002. He was also Member of Lok Sabha representing Vidisha from 1991 to 2005. He was also elected to 18th Lok Sabha from Vidisha. As a leader of the BJP, Chouhan served as General Secretary and President of Madhya Pradesh state unit. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1972, as a 13-year-old.

    He is known for launching various welfare schemes such as the rice at Rs 1 per kg for the poverty-stricken, Sambal scheme that provided women labourers with maternity assistance, free education for poverty-stricken girls, electricity at a fixed rate, Ladli Laxmi Yojana and Beti Bachao Abhiyan. These welfare schemes introduction by Chauhan is attributed for the BJP's electoral victory in 2008, 2013 and 2023 assembly elections.

    Just ahead of Mohan Yadav's swearing-in on Wednesday, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan bid goodbye saying, "Ab vida, jas ki tas rakh deni chadariya (now goodbye and leave it as it is)."

    The former CM made the remark while talking to reporters in state capital Bhopal. He also expressed confidence that the CM will take the prosperity, development and public welfare in the state to new heights.
