RAMBO MCGUIRE BIOGRAPHY
Both Donyand Reba come from a rich musical family heritage. At the age of 13, Reba Rambo began traveling with her parents, Buck and Dottie Rambo, in the legendary southern Gospel music group, The Rambos. As a young boy, Dony McGuire toured with his four brothers and many popular Gospel singing groups before joining The Downings. They both launched solo careers in the late ‘70s becoming trendsetters in contemporary Christian music before joining forces as Rambo McGuire.
Dony and Reba have composed and written hundreds of songs including several new collaborations with Bill and Gloria Gaither as well as other well known writers across all genres of music. They are not only acclaimed songwriters but have written articles for Gaither’s Homecoming Magazine and Reba was featured in her own column “There Has To Be A Song.” In addition, she is in the process of completing her second book, a collection of stories behind the songs of Dottie Rambo.
They taught creative writing workshops giving young and seasoned writers practical instruction in the craft of writing songs, stories, sermons, and speeches. “I wish someone had taught me these principles and secrets when I was young because it would have shaved years off my creative learning process,” says Reba.
Reba continues to write and teach creative writing. She has collaborated her daughter Destiny in recording a new project which will be released as Rambo Women in the near future.
Revival fills weeks at church Christian performers traded concert dates for evangelism
WHAT began as a three-day revival led by Grammy Award-winning gospel musicians Dony and Reba Rambo Mc Guire will enter its sixth week Monday at Liberty Church.
The services mix music, ministry, praise, prayer and repentance. People speak prophetic words they say they received from the Lord. They lay lands on those in need of healing, shouting "Hallelujah" as an affirmation of what they expect to happen.
The McGuires and church leaders say they did not expect the extended ministry. But they offer ideas about what made it possible.
Dony and Reba first visited Liberty Church about 16 years ago, shortly after Pastors Mark and Lola Allen started what they consider an "interdenominational" congregation.
The singers returned to minister once or twice a year, building and maintaining a strong relationship with the Allens and the growing congregation.
In the early 1990s, the McGuires' focus began to shift from a concert at a different church each night to more emphasis on preaching and ministry.
"God asked us two questions," Reba McGuire said, recalling a powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit in Florida in November 1993. "The first question was, 'Can I interrupt your life?' The second question was, 'Do you have time for revival?'"
She says they answered "yes," even though they had no idea what it would mean. They just knew they'd be stepping out of their comfort zone.
"Let me tell you, revival is a divine interruption!" Reba McGuire said.
Not long after that, a three-day revival in Southern California in 1994 expanded to six weeks with 77 services. Dony began canceling events to make way for what God wanted to do.
Those interruptions are still occurring.
The McGuires came to Liberty Church last November for a Sunday and decided they'd enjoy spending a little more time here this year. They scheduled the revival for April 3-5.
They ended up returning the next four Mondays t

Reba Rambo is a GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning singer, songwriter, author, minister and teacher. She’s the walking definition of a pioneering woman.
At the age of 13, Reba began traveling with her parents, Buck and Dottie Rambo, in the legendary southern Gospel group, The Rambos. Known for their innovative style of inverted, three-part harmony, The Rambos were one of the most successful Gospel trios of the 20th century.
As a teenager, Reba began a successful solo career in contemporary Christian music, garnering Dove Awards and GRAMMY nominations in a trailblazing genre that merged Christian lyrics with modern styles of music. She won her first Dove Award for Pop/Contemporary Album Of The Year with her project Lady.
One of the major highlights of her career came when Reba and Dony McGuire joined forces as Rambo McGuire and collaborated in writing a concept album, The Lord’s Prayer. The album won them a GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Gospel Album Of The Year as well as a Dove Award for Praise And Worship Album Of The Year.
In 2001, Reba was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame along with her parents as members of The Rambos and today Reba carries on her family’s rich musical heritage through her family group Rambo McGuire. They recently released two projects commemorating The Rambos, Rambo Classics and a Dove Award-winning recording titled Grassroots Rambos. Never for Nothing
RAMBO McGUIRE : Rambo Classics. (Stow Town Records : STR3170)
Rambo McGuire is an acclaimed family group that has a long legacy of singing Christian music. The group began over 30 years ago as a husband and wife duo with GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning artists and songwriters Dony McGuire and Reba Rambo-McGuire. The duo dynamic continues today, but mostly they perform as a trio with their daughter Destiny Rambo McGuire joining them on vocals. Dony and Reba’s son Israel Anthem McGuire adds to the family mix by playing percussion. This release features 14 new recordings of favourite Rambo McGuire songs, and is an ideal place to start for new listeners of this group. Primarily a southern gospel outfit, the members of the group also tackle soulful numbers, such as “Precious Jesus”, and big production songs like “For What Earthly Reason” and “He Looked Beyond My Fault.” Vocally, they can’t be faulted. Both lead vocals and harmonies are superb. “Sheltered in the Arms of God” is a touching song. Reba caresses each word of the song, especially when she sings the line “He Walks with me.” Praising the Lord with “There’s Nothing My God Can’t Do,” the band declare that “Mighty God can take a heart and make it His own.” I’ve been looking forward to hearing this album for a little while and I’m pleased to say that I haven’t been disappointed. 8/10.
